In the Civil War, soldiers didn't fight all the time. A man has other duties to perform. This one is keeping the fire going and heating water for doing dishes, laundry or whatever hot water is needed for. |

Officers would have a horse and a fine saddle. The troops would always be on foot. Horses were used mainly to haul supplies or for pulling cannons. |
