In the Civil War, soldiers didn't fight all the time. A man has other duties to perform. This one is keeping the fire going and heating water for doing dishes, laundry or whatever hot water is needed for. |
| Women could be found in some camps. Making or repairing clothing. Some times taking the part of a nurse to care for the wounded. |  |

The flags always flew near the officers quarters. |
| The Company Surgeon had to be ready whenever a battle broke out. He explained that most soldier would survive surgery, but, because of infection, would not survive recovery. |  |

Officers would have a horse and a fine saddle. The troops would always be on foot. Horses were used mainly to haul supplies or for pulling cannons. |
